About Us

Third Space emerged from group of Christians who wanted more. Much of the discussion had centred on the unconnectedness of so much of what the Church was and had to say with contemporary culture. If Jesus and was so uniquely important, why was the institutional expression of Christianity (the Church) seemingly so ineffectual and marginal? There had to be another way.
We decided to launch a pub discussion group, advertise it in the local paper and see what happened. Friends would be invited, discussions set up and alcohol consumed. Broadly the subject of “Spirituality” was the linking theme in our discussions.
From those initial pub discussions over the summer, a group of friends and neighbours and contacts of various sorts began to congeal into “a group with a shared identity.” A couple came via a Matlock Mercury letter; most came through a variety of already existing contacts.
The group included Christians of different denominations and the unchurched of different backgrounds. Theologically we ranged from conservative to liberal to not on the spectrum at all. The conversation was therefore open, exploratory and without agenda.
This group continues to meet in pubs and homes, to find out more about what we do click here.
