To Boldly Go …..

To boldly go through life’s journey

Our usual room was being used for a community event about Pirates. We used the adjoining room which involved us thinking much more creatively as we were in a much smaller space. People attending found the welcome to Soul Space (small sign on left) next to the skull and cross bones highly amusing!

Welcome to Soul Space (if you are a pirate!)

So we went boldly through space and time whilst watching a video of Hubble Space Telescope images. AMAZING!

We had a pack which contained some activities and objects to help us in our prayer and musings.

 We watched the video

One activity asked us to think about our life’s journey so far:

  • What was beautiful, inspiring, comforting, amazing, astonishing, surprising, affirming, assuring?
  • Were there dark places, obstacles, dangers, loneliness, bereavement, shock, fear, anger, resentment?

Amazing pictures of planets, nebula and stars.

We all want a straight easy smooth journey but there are often difficult decisions to make or obstructions that cause us to feel lost or flounder.

  •  Pray about your long term dreams?
  •  Pray for your own future
  •  Pray for those whose future is tied up with yours
  •  Pray for the future of the planet, all our futures are all tied up together.
We were asked to spend some time thinking about the road ahead on your future journey;

We had a ribbon in our pack and we took out our ribbon and tied it in with others to symbolise
our future being tied up with others.

Remember – GOD IS PRESENT EVERYWHERE . . .

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that your are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them” Psalm 8

He is always with you.

“Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from Your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depth, You are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me.  Your right had will hold me fast” (Psalm 139:7-10).

In the little things, in the macro-skies,

in the fragile

in the lasting

Christ is coming

He comes to make all things new.

In stillness

      into eternity

                                      Christ is coming,

Coming to make all things new.

Stillness:  Wondering at the possibility of God’s eternal depth in the single moment of now.

Smallness:  Wondering if our experience of smallness and fragility is actually the experience of an incredible held-ness in the love of God.

In this vision he showed me a little thing, the size of a hazelnut  and it was as round as a ball. I looked at it with the eye of my understanding and thought “what may this be?” and it was generally answered thus: “It is all that is made.”

I marvelled at how it might last for it seemed it might suddenly have sunk into nothing because of its littleness. And I was answered “it lasts and ever shall, because God loves it.” Julian of Norwich

Celtic Christians, who came to be regarded as saints, were early pioneers in taking the Christian Gospel to unreached people and places. They believed that as they set sail in their coracles (a small lightweight boat with neither oars or rudder) that the wind would blow them to the places that the Spirit of God would lead them to.

Set me free to behold with the eyes of my heart
Great wonders on the high seas of God

Looking at the poem by Michael Mitten about the Celtic monk Brendan:

Dear God

Brendan was as mad as a bear with toothache

But it was a madness you loved

And you took hold of that old bear

And threw him out to sea

‘Til he returned to land with such a wild tale

That even the priests laughed themselves silly.

The people danced in the surf of Bantry Bay

And a thousand coracles set sail

Into the bright breeze of your Spirit.

O Lord madden me by that same Spirit

Bring on the God-blessed flights of fancy

Inebriate me with Holy Ghost visions

And set me free to behold with the eyes of my heart

Great wonders on the high seas of God.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” John 1 :1

Go boldly in the presence of God!
